Refurbishment across Design & Technology and Food Technology departments

SJP Interiors were appointed by Verulam School to deliver a full refurbishment across multiple rooms within their Design & Technology and Food Technology departments. The project involved upgrading existing spaces, replacing components that had reached end-of-life, improving the layout, and reinstating equipment that required specialist handling.

Each room had different functional requirements, so sequencing and installation were planned to ensure each space was set out correctly for its intended teaching purpose.

The project was delivered within a live school environment, which required careful planning around access, timing, and delivery movements. Heavy machinery reinstatement was managed to ensure correct positioning, safe integration with extraction points, and compliance with operational safety requirements.
All mechanical, electrical, and AC works were coordinated to integrate with existing infrastructure while bringing the spaces up to a more modern, functional standard.

The refurbishment works have provided Verulam School with practical, clean, and updated DT and Food Technology teaching environments. The upgraded rooms now have better layouts, improved extraction, correct equipment positioning, and services that support everyday use by students and staff.
The school can now operate these specialist spaces with the correct equipment reinstated, safer functionality, and a modernised interior suitable for their current curriculum delivery.
“SJP assisted with full re-design of our School Design & Technology Department. This included building a new cooking room facility with 9 workstations for use by 18 cookery students and installing brand new air conditioning system.
They decommissioned and moved heavy duty machinery including a bandsaw, circular saw, planner thicknesser, sharp edge tool sharpener to a new room, providing new phase 3 power supply, safety stops, along with designing and installing local exhaust ventilation and recommissioning of all equipment.
The team were very professional at all times. A full timeline planning schedule was provided with a complete breakdown of costs. All works were delivered on time and on budget. The few snagging items that were raised have been accepted and dealt with efficiently. They have been a pleasure to work with and we would certainly use them again.”
